Don't underestimate the potential of art for society! - since April 1, 2022, the self-confident Dane has been the first female president of the renowned Munich Art Academy since 1808. She came to defend this institution of freedom against all standardizing challenges. She is committed to the master classes, which guarantee individual support, and to the workshops, which enable experiments with almost every conceivable material. As President, Karen Pontoppidan is an ambassador for all artists and wants to stimulate open discussion about the importance of art in society.

Karen Pontoppidan wanted to make jewellery when she was 13 and began an apprenticeship as a goldsmith when she was 17. After further training at the College for Design, Jewellery and Hollowware in Schwäbisch Gmünd, she studied for six years at the Academy in Munich in Otto Künzli's class and grew into teaching as his assistant in the years that followed. After a call to the famous Stockholm Ädellab, the professor returned to Munich after nine years and has headed the class for Jewellery and Hollowware since 2015. "The class is my passion," says Karen Pontoppidan, who will continue to look after her as president.
